Alpha Methyl Styrene (AMS)
Alpha Methyl Styrene (AMS) is a monomer that has several inherent advantages over styrene. It readily copolymerizes with other monomers like Styrene, Divinyl Benzene, Acrylates, Acrylonitrile, Butadiene, etc., to produce polymers with a wide range of properties useful in various industries. It significantly improves the heat distortion properties of ABS plastics, Polystyrene, MMA, SAN, etc. AMS exhibits little tendency to polymerize with free radicals but readily polymerizes with an ionic catalyst, making it useful in PVC processing and surface coating industries. It is a stable compound that is easy to handle and store. AMS can also be copolymerized with Butadiene using the emulsion technique to produce a good quality synthetic rubber. With its numerous advantages and applications, Alpha Methyl Styrene is a highly valued monomer in the chemical industry.
