Imagining a new, better tomorrow through research and development

Contract research and manufacturing services (CRAMS)
ION Chemicals, a reliable partner to numerous top innovative and generic companies, has a well-established reputation for “chemical process development and manufacturing.” The company has now expanded its services to include Contract Research and Manufacturing Services (CRAMS). This move is significant because CRAMS allows companies to outsource various functions, such as research, development, and manufacturing, to third-party providers. By doing so, companies can benefit from specialized expertise, enhanced flexibility, reduced costs, faster time-to-market, and minimized risks. Consequently, CRAMS has become a popular business model in sectors like pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and agrochemicals.
Our decades-long expertise is applied to generate high-quality, commercially viable, economical, scalable, and environmentally friendly processes for our partners. We strongly believe in technology, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to achieving the best outcomes.

Key initiatives

Briquette boiler
- Present steam generator at site is based on fossil fuel and leads to high steam cost of Rs. 5-6 per kg.
- Briquette boiler on BOT basis by Thermax will bring down the cost of part of the steam at Rs. 2.2 per kg.
- It’s proposed to generate 12 TPH steam from briquette which is roughly 50% of steam required.
Encon D steam boiler
- Encon D is a waste heat recovery boiler installed in cumene plan in 1989 to recover heat from overhead vapours of cumene column. This boiler was stopped due to regulatory issues.
- The new boiler was fabricated and installed as per the regulatory guidelines which enabled our company to get savings of 2 tons/hr of steam.

Commissioning of chillers
- Previously, two chillers were in operation which catered to the total site cooling requirement of approx. 160 TR. But in cases of chiller failure, no backup option was available.
- Failure of chiller used to result in plant downtime and production losses.
- New chiller added 110 TR to the cooling capacity.
Head office upgradation
- Faster and more reliable communications
- Enhanced efficiency and productivity
- Lower costs and higher profits
- Greater transparency and interconnected operations
- Improved security

R&D vertical
- Hiring and onboarding Ph.D. Chemists
- Upgrading laboratory infrastructure and equipment
- Setting up fixed bed reactor, distillation, and other instruments
The following opportunities will become accessible through this work:
- Development of heterogenous products and processes
- Enabling efficient and effective utilization of resources
- Contract research opportunity with various industrial leaders in the chemical space
- Providing in-demand analytical services to global chemical companies
Pipe rack project
- Flooding of steam lines due to submergence was eliminated.
- Steam loss was minimized.
- Ground contamination due to leakage of phenol was stopped.
- Time and money spent on line leakage repair work was minimized.
- Choking of phenol & TMCOL lines was prevented.
- LP steam tracing headers at accessible locations and flooding of some of the steam tracing headers during monsoon can be avoided.
